Hey ya’ll!! I hope everyone is having a great week! I got a Golden Retriever puppy 9 days ago and have been busy taking care of her. Her name is Cotton and I LOVE her! Pictures are coming soon so stay tuned. If you ever consider getting a puppy, make sure it’s when you have A LOT of free time. Emphasis on A LOT. I take her out 8-10 times a day and feed her 3 times a day. She is a handful!! But sooo sweet!
I am so excited for this Labor Day weekend because I’m bringing my boyfriend’s mom to Florida for the first time to see where I grew up!! Unless. . . . the tropical storm cancels our flight. Hopefully everything works out! Can’t wait!!
There are so many fun things popping up around Nashville lately. One of them being a “new to Nashville” custom fit mens clothing company called Alton Lane. They recently opened an appointment only showroom in Edge-hill village. When they reached out to me about Tyler (my boyfriend) getting to experience a custom shirt fitting I was very excited for him to try something totally new. My boyfriend has never worked an office job and all of his “work clothes” are for working outside. He has worked outside his whole life! The extent of his everyday wardrobe is tore up khakis, dri-fit shirts, and Carhartt. So I encouraged him to go with me to try one of their shirts and see what he has been missing in the custom clothes world. It was a fun experience for us both!
If you are similar to me then you probably had no idea there’s a whole market for custom fit mens wear. Same here girl!! Like wow! I was really impressed by the whole process. So if you are wondering how it works or what all goes into it then guess what?!? I can’t wait to tell you!
We had a complementary appointment set up where we met with the beautiful Cassie (showroom manager). She was so sweet and outgoing. She meets one on one with all of her clients. P.S. To get into the showroom you have to push a button and then a trap door opens up. It’s the coolest thing! Such a fun touch!
As a part of our hour appointment, Cassie offered us drinks. They have a full bar including really nice whiskey! Perfect for sipping while designing your custom threads! The bar was super cute, made of reclaimed wood, and was where we made the decisions!!
Cassie showed us some of their sample shirts in the showroom. Tyler was getting a complementary shirt made but they also make linen shirts, suits, tuxedos, and more! She even showed us a fabric sample where they have pieces of diamonds in the fabric. It’s one of their premium fabrics. It was so neat!
Next, Tyler looked through fabric swatches to pick out what fabric he wanted his shirt to be made out of.
He choose a classic white and black gingham pattern that we both thought would make a solid “staple” dress shirt. When we had doubts, Cassie was so helpful with guiding us and informing us of what most people were happy with.
After Tyler picked out the fabric, Cassie went step by step asking him what type of details he wanted the shirt to have. For example, buttons on the collar? Or complementary fabric in the collar? It was so much fun getting to pick out specifics of his future shirt! When she asked him about a monogram, I laughed so hard. I could never picture my Tyler with a monogram on his shirt! But she said some people really love it!!
After the fabric and features were nailed down, it was time to take measurements!
Alton Lane is very special because they have a high tech scanner you step in that will take measurements of your body to help them find the best fit. The scanner is behind that curtain.
You can see below what the computer screen looks like that shows Tyler’s body shape after he was in the scanner. I think this technology is so interesting!!! It was unbelievable!!
After his general measurements were taken with the scanner, Cassie had Tyler try on a sample size so she could then make adjustments according to Tyler’s preferences. For example, we shortened the length of the shirt a little and took it in on the sides some. Cassie even taught us that Tyler had been wearing his dress shirts looser than he should have. She had great advice! She even used an iPad to take notes and schedule the order.
After she pinned up the shirt we were all done. Tyler’s shirt will come to him within 4-6 weeks. Custom clothes takes time! We are going to a wedding together in October so we are excited to get his shirt before then so he can wear it to the event! Overall we had such a good time and it was a VERY fun experience. It was nice to see Tyler try something out of his comfort zone.
If any of your boyfriends or husbands are looking to spruce up their dress clothes I would highly suggest Alton Lane!! Especially for special events! The best part is Cassie said that if Tyler falls in love with the shirt and wants to order more they will have all of his information on file and he can order anytime. They also have all kinds of manly trinkets I have pictured throughout this post that you can buy while getting fitted. I love trying things like this that are special to the Nashville area.
Thanks to Alton Lane! Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!
As always thank you for reading!
